004 Leaps of Faith
The past couple of weeks have been full. Up at 6am or earlier nearly every day with activities from moving out of my loft in LA, attending set for a production my company was insuring or getting my van checked out by a mechanic and hitting the road to drive up to Whistler, BC taking Highway 1 and 101 the entire way.
I have just arrived in Sammamish, WA where my parents live for a day off of driving to rest, enjoy precious time with them and write - something I haven’t prioritized in the past couple of weeks, primarily due to my move which in fact, is part of my plan to have much more time to write.
Along the drive I surfed world class breaks, cooked nearly every meal with an ocean view, listened to two 10hr+ audiobooks, pondered all the upcoming travel I have in mind and played Dominick Fike’s latest album from start to finish Sunburn at least 30 times. Bliss.
It’s the beginning of a new chapter in my life - nomadic living.
The first few days on the road, I drove about 3-4 hours a day max. And this was typically broken up between two, three or even four sessions with extended stops to work and play in between. I was completely in a it’s not about the destination, but the journey mindset and taking parallel action. When I got to San Francisco on Day 4, the idea of calculating how much I have to go arised and I quickly realized ‘I have a LONG way to go still’ when I plugged the route into Google Maps. Aiming to be in Whistler, BC by Aug 3rd - I had some miles to lay down.
As soon as I started counting back the miles and hours I’d need to put on the road each day, the whole joy in every turn lessened. My previously enjoyable stops became flooded with thoughts that I’m running behind and need to be in a hurry to get to my destination. I’ve felt this way before many times and through my present moment practice and rituals I implement in nearly every element of my life, the feeling was brief. Especially, once I realized I could travel fast, but not be in a hurry. The days sure were longer on the road, but every turn became enjoyable again.

Area of thought to Consider
BEING OVER ACHIEVING
Being is more important than achieving.
When we are too focused on the achieving, we may let the being slip by.
The achieving is only possible through the being.
Focus on the being.
Quote to ponder
“Those who know don’t talk. Those who talk don’t know.” ― Tao Te Ching
Something to try
Take a leap of faith.
Write 3 things down that you are resisting taking a leap of faith. Then, ask yourself:
What’s the worst that could happen if I take the leap of faith?
What’s the worst that could happen if I don’t take the leap of faith?
Then, let go of both thoughts that arise and take the leap of faith.
Start small. Make it fun. Put it into action.
Not tomorrow. Not next week. Today.
There is nothing to fear.
Shift the fear into curiosity, experimentation and play.
